Fitz:
Thanks for the new focus on last week’s call. It was very valuable for me to use that format; we tried it in our Thursday Dream Maker Think Tank here in Fargo and it got rave reviews!
I will send you more information about the Third Annual Bigger Small Talk Summit and Genius Workshop June 16-17 here in Fargo. I’ve also got a link to a slideshow on Linked In on my profile if you want a brief overview.
Looking forward to talking with everyone tomorrow!

Jodie, send me your bio and photo and I’ll add it to my FocusAndSucceedNOW.com webstie and I’ll begin to promote it. Also what was the name of the author of those books you were talking about last week?
Comment by thewowcommunity— January 12, 2009 #
Sure, Fitz – I’ll send you an email with my bio. I think I was talking about the book “Community: The Structure of Belonging” by Peter Block. I’m really excited about that – and I’ve created a 10-week study guide for it as well. He’s also written “The Answer to How is Yes.”

Today is the day we need to volunteer and show our appreciation to those agencies that help other’s with assistance. We discussed on the call lots of ways we “give back’ and we noted some great non-profits. So here is the list—everyone please check them out. The mentioned agencies and groups— are authentic, ethical and folks who join the coffee hour have first time experience with them.
http://www.wbefargo.com Women IN Business Exchange in Fargo—a group that matches career / business mentors with individual women needing encouragement and insights.
http://www.childsaving.org —The Child Saving Institute in Omaha— where Fitz and her husband will be mentoring children.
http://www.specialkidsnetwork.org/ Special Kids Network was started by Chad Coe who was a close colleague of Fitz. Fitz led Chad and a group of busieness owners who wanted to “give back” in a strategic planning exercise that created the vision for this non-profit. Soon after the non-profit organization was launched and it has made a huge impact on a lot of kids lives. Check it out!
http://www.bob33.com— a great program started by Bob Proctor’s group that helps kids 10-19 learn how to set goals and use their thoughts to change the results in their life.
Also mentioned during today’s coffee hour was Barbara Mcafee (see http://www.Barbaramcafee.com) who is a very talented lady who uses her gift of music to teach organizations and individuals how to communicate using their “authentic voice”. Barabara does public speaking and is a dynamic speaker—so we are tooting her horn this morning.
The book Spiral Dynamics by Beck and Cowan was mentioned today again in regards to raising the level of consciousness and the dynamics that consciousness plays in our personal life and within organizations.
Fitz invites all folks who visit her coffee hour to be part of her Road Map For Life Project and start contributing your insights, wisdom and knowledge on the blog and soon on the upcoming radio show. Visit http://www.roadmapforlifeproject.com
And welcome Matt who joined the coffee hour today.
Everyone have a great week!

Fitz, today was awesome, so many good ideas. Before I forget I wanted to share the wonderful resource I have been using to expose myself to social marketing. It is called “The new rules of marketing and PR” by David Meerman Scott

For anyone who is just starting out I highely recommend it.
Thanks again and see you soon.

Hey all, great conversation yesterday. I always learn so much! I think I actually put two and two together when we were talking about “tags” on blogs.
We threw Bob into the Think Tank Circle yesterday and learned more about his business and how he is working on positioning himself and packaging his products and services so that he can penetrate several different markets. The interesting thing is that Bob really can provide services to all geographic areas and all typs of demogrphics. The key was to identify the “Psychographics” of his customers. This means Bob would be able to identify what are the “mental triggers” that his customer has that makes them want to say “Bob please help me out!” . When we understand the psychology of why our customers buy we then can create sales copy and a tag line that speaks directly to those customer’s needs and desires.
Thanks for an engaging Monday morning conversation all! Everyone’s input are just more lessons learned for all of us.

Bob, here are those books that we were talking about after the coffee hour ended. I purchased them at Barnes & Noble. I would also check your local library and Amazon. I found them very helpful in regards to generating ideas for team building activities.
The Big Book of Icebreakers by Edie West
A Handbook of Interactive Exercise For Groups by Constance A. Barlow
The Big Book of Team Building Games by John Newstrom
The Big Book Of Motivation Games by Robert Epstein
Team Games For Trainers by Carolyn Nilson
For those who were in on the early discussion as we were waiting for everyone to arrive to the coffee hour…we were talking about another book called The Einstein Factor by Win Winger.
Bob—thanks for talking about the New Rules Of Marketing. I have the one published about 10 years ago by Newell—which is a classic so I will be eager to see this update.

Bob,
A couple of things I was thinking about after the call ended. As far as the tagline, I think something hockey related would be nice. I don’t know a lot about hockey, but was thinking that the puck could be a good tool for you. I was thinking of “The puck stops here!” Something that gets to the heart of personal accountability. Being in control of the messages you are putting out, of knowing who you are and what your core values are.
I found a quote once, I believe it was credited to Oprah. It went something to the effect…If you haven’t defined who you are when you become a celebrity, your celebrity will define who you are.
I think you message could echo that, in that first knowing yourself, you can better know others which is the basis for becoming a true team.
Also, along with the pucks, you could see about having pucks laser engraved or some type of adhesive sticker attached and use them in a targeted mailer to potential clients. Be sure to autograph each one. It Would be a little bit more eye catching that the typical brochure or e-mail that people are bombarded with.

Bob, Brenda’s got a point that she writes in the quote. As a celebrity —your brand has been decided—long ago. WHen you became a celebrity your fans and teamates and league created your personal brand. So you now will have to transfer it to another side of who you are, or update it. I didn’t think about that yesterday on the call. I know you as Bob W. from Life Success— and forget that you got that hockey past you can leverage. (I’ve only been to two hockey games my whole life—forgive me LOL)
DENNIS!!!!! I know you would have a direction for Bob on how to merge his previous “hockey image brand” with his new “image” which focuses on life coaching, mind management and that fun stuff we often talk about. Any thoughts?

Monday- Feb 2nd -2009 This morning’s coffee hour was visted by LisaKay, Tom G., Jodee, Brenda and Anne Marie —and of course Fitz. The energy of the morning ended up putting LisaKay into the circle and we shared some delightful insights regarding our ability to “shrink” when we are in the midst of “others” who we believe to be great. Everyone in the coffee hour related to this feeling of “being small” and letting our inner brat dictate our feelings of being inferior.
We wrestled with asking ourselves questions such as “Do we believe in ourselves?” and “Do we have a knowing of what we do has value?” We recognized the gaps that exist between the “belief” and the “knowing” and the “true feeling of knowing”.
We talked about beliefs and how they often make us all discount or apologize for when we say “this is our fee”.
Lots of insights were shared and Tom added value by providing a free lesson to everyone on how to discover your personal brand. You can visit Tom’s website by going to http:www.marketingandbrandingstrategy.com. (Tom go ahead and post more directions on how to obtain this free e-book and lesson that has some great thought provoking questions.)
Hugs to you all—enjoy the week—we’ll chat again next week.

I just want to thank everyone for their authenticity on today’s call. I love that this is such a safe place for people to assist each other in raising our individual and collective consciousness. We are all playing big together, and I know the results we are seeing in our lives will call us to bigger action. Thank you for being who you are being for the world!!

On today’s call (February 9) I mentioned the book “Community: The Structure of Belonging” by Peter Block. I’m currently facilitating two groups who are studying the book. I created a study guide for the book and would be happy to make it available to anyone who wants it. (It’s broken into sections (10) so it looks like a lot of files, but they’re small).
Please contact me if you’d like me to email it to you (jodee@bocksoffice.com).
Great call again today!!! Thanks for the community you create which allows me to fill a longing to be (one of Block’s definitions of “belonging.”).

Monday- Feb 9th- the call was attended by a host of folks (Mary Pat, Dennis, Wendy, LisaKay, Jodee, Bob, and Tom). There were two discussions today the first being why we don’t take the time to acknowledge our successes. Some of the insights shared by those who attended the coffee hour are as follows:
When you feel like you forget to acknowledge or celebrate your successes because you just climbed the mountain and when you are at the top of it you are already peering at the next without looking back at the big climb you just accomplished ….here’s some thoughts and suggestions.
1) Ask yourself ” Do I deserve it?” Think about setting up a process for yourself so that you do become more aware of the present moment. So the first step is just noticing. I always say —Notice what you notice. Just notice what grabs your attention. Some of that is notice what you notice. Stop for a second. That is something .
2) sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to enjoy that and create room and forgive ourselves and when we open up that space we can really enjoy. Forgiveness—thank you for giving this to me that I may learn this.
3) How do you stop and smell the roses ? Stop and acknowledge the success. And acknowledge the co-creation, source or another person. It puts the accountability. I think the action step is to challenge or acknowledge these belief systems.
4)If it feels good do it. If it feels good feel it.
5)How we accept or don’t accept praise is something we all need to look at. We know when we have done something well. It’s an interesting…sometimes we don’t want to acknowledge our own accomplishments.
6)We as people don’t give ourselves or acknowledge ourselves and what we become. Too many times we are very quick to beat on ourselves when we do have our success. We need to focus on creating more peace in our life.
For me personally – I have to understand who I am becoming as I accomplish these things and say “Hey I did this before and being okay with it.”
Join us next week if you got the time—and the coffee!

Sorry for delayed response to Bob Wilkie’s tag line discussion. The approach I have practiced and put into the Marketing Focus Workbook is to do an anlysis of three overall spheres-1) your business/service-offering; 2) your competition’s business’service/offering and 3)the target market/overall market’s needs, wants and contexts and find that “space” that coincides with what you offer that your competition can’t or doesn’t and that the market values. That space is your optimum positioning and your tag line should reflect and communicate that positioning. I am happy to help with that analysis if desired. Hope that helps some.

I took Jodee’s recommendation and purchased several of Peter Block’s books. I’m currently reading Stewardship and can see that this book is a great preparation for Jodee’s recommendation, Community.
What I am reading thus far resonates strongly for me and, at the same time, it is clearly challenging a paradigm of leadership that I have held to for a long time. Some of my long held leadership beliefs are still timely…and many more are not going to serve the greater good in this time of planetary change. His thoughts on corporate governance and distribution of power are flying in the face of the very insidious and pervasive beliefs around compliance and control.
I feel like my world has turned upside down in a very good way and that these concepts will only enrich the leadership transformation to which I am committed.
My two cents worth!
